So, this time it is about Grimms Notes!!!!! What is this anime about? You will see when I start to talk about it. Anyway, it's time for it!

This franchise, Grimms Notes (which I think is not exactly right because, its Japanese name, グリムノーツ has a pronunciation that sounds like Grimm Notes) started off as an online free-to-play role-playing Android and iOS mobile game that is developed by Genki and published by Square Enix. It was released for Japanese users on January 21, 2016, in Japan and for worldwide users on March 2, 2018, in South Korea, China, North America and Europe by Flero Games, a Korean publisher. There is the anime adaption (which I will be talking about here) done by Brain's Base. It is titled Grimms Notes the Animation that was premiered from January 10 to March 28, 2019. Oh, is the game still on, you asked? Well, the English version is pretty much dead because the last update is last year but not the
Japanese version as seen on their
Twitter page.

Plot

| The Tao family? |
The story started with a group of friends fighting against an unknown evil that destroys the different "story zone" in their world. Who are in "the group of friends"? They are Ex, Shane, Tao and Reina, the leader of the group and the priestess of tuning. Tuning what? She tunes the story zone's story back to its original form. There is also the antagonist group, which does exactly the opposite, to change the story of the story zone that leads to the crumbling of the story zone. In the antagonist's own words, their mission is to free the people in the story zone from their pre-written destiny, written by the "Story Teller".

OK, there are a few things to clarify as the world that anime narrates is a special world. This world is made up of multiple "story zone", which narrates famous childhood story like Cinderella, over and over again and told by the "Story Teller". Everybody in the world has a book of fate that narrates on what will happen in their life...except for a few where they have an empty book of fate. Those people are no looked upon well by normal people in the world as for the case of Ex. Poor guy. Anyway, they could either choose to follow the priestess of tuning or follow the creators of "Chaos Tellers". As for the poor people with an empty book of fate that has no chance to meet either of the two groups, maybe slowly disappear into obscurity? I don't know. Anyway, let's get back to the story or in the case, the point.

Those character with an empty book of fate can actually transform into "heroes" or protagonist from a storyline for power, both the protagonist and antagonist. Anyway, the Villian is the product of the "Chaos Teller", which is the product of the power of the antagonist to persuade the people to stray from their intended paths. This is what the Tao Family (as Tao puts it and Reina objects to it) does, to defeat the "Chaos Teller" and restore the "Story Zone" to its intended path.

I won't be telling much of the story as it is actually a cycle of travelling to different "Story Zone", defeating the "Chaos Teller" and starting of tuning the Story Zone back to its original path. Although they are tweaks and small differences between the different journey, they ultimately had a similar pattern. Anyway, with that said, it is actually a pretty decent story even though I did hope for a little more. OK, you know? Let's move on.

Anime Rating
Story (Rating: 6/10)
The story feels a little repetitive in terms of story pattern. The plot follows a pattern of travelling to different "Story Zone" to defeat the "Chaos Teller" and tune the Story Zone back to normal. The story has a decent flow and pace. And also, the story is relatively easy to understand. There are some cliffhanger and mystery that add some elements to the story

Art and Animation (Rating: 6/10)
The anime has a pretty decent animation for the fights and decent art. They are pretty consistent, unlike...OK, let's stop there. Anyway, the appearance of different characters is consistent and decent. Well...I dun have much to say here. Let's move on.

Sound and Music (Rating: 5/10)
The soundtracks (or BGM) are well-placed and decent. The opening and ending theme songs are decent but not really to my taste. OK, that's it. Let's move on.

Characters (Rating: 9/10)
This probably the strongest part of the whole anime. The character development is really strong especially on the main character, Ex. Of course, the supporting cast has their character developed on the way too. As for the relatability of the characters, they are not exactly that relatable but the characters in the Story Zones portrays numerous stories in the different story zones that are familiar to us.

Enjoyment (Rating: 7/10)
Well, ranking enjoyment? To be honest, it is not that easy, especially for anime that pretty average. Yes, it has several cliffhangers and mysteries that make me anticipate the next episode but those are not that many. Plus, the mysterious world of Grimms Notes is not exactly known to us...wait a minute, I feel like I'm talking about KanColle here. Ok, no, KanColle has the mystery being partially resolved to us in the movie. Anyway, I'm gonna move on. The thing I can say about this anime is that it is pretty average.
