Writing Anime Review in Tears: Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

Sniff...sniff...sniff...Sorry, that was a lot of tears and crying. This anime...I have not mentioned it before, right? It is A VERY SAD story. It's REALLY hard for me to swallow, REALLY...REALLY hard.

The main characters of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

OK, let's move on...It will be a REAL emotional roller coaster ride. Get ready, people. REALLY, REALLY get ready. Reach for your tissue box or your tissue rolls or your handkerchief OR ALL OF THEM! Ready? Really, really ready? Seriously ready? OK, then, let's go.

WARNING:-
SPOILER ALERT!!! If you haven't watched it and plan to watch it without anyone being the spoiler, please DON'T CONTINUE READING!!!

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You have been warned.

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (四月は君の嘘, lit. April is Your Lie), or in English, Your Lie in April, is adapted from a Japanese manga series by Naoshi Arakawa, that was serialised in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Magazine. The animation was done by A-1 Pictures. Well, you guess what? There was a live-action film adaptation of the same name back in September 2016. I knew about this film but I have forgotten about it and didn't keep track of its release. BTW, the sales are not as good as Kimi no Na wa though. Duh! Oh yeah, I might watch Kimi no Na wa sometime and maybe, reviewing the anime film someday.

The movie...

Anyway, let's start. The story starts off with Arima Kōsei, who no longer plays his piano after having a mental breakdown while performing at a piano recital at the age of twelve, is going through his normal routine with his two good friends, Sawabe Tsubaki and Ryōta Watari. Let me tell you ONE thing: He was a piano prodigy who had dominated the competition and has become famous among child musicians when he was TWELVE! Imagine a 12-year-old who dominate multiple competitions across the nation. Wow...

The prodigy Arima...here is the start of his short-lived domination as a boy

One day, a girl changes everything. This girl is introduced as a girl who had a crush on Watari. Kōsei was pushed into the rendezvous spot by Tsubaki for a double date as Ryōta is being introduced to this girl. Who is this girl you ask? She is Kaori Miyazono, a violinist who is playing melodica when Kōsei was first met her.

First time meeting Kaori...

Kaori, a free-spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her manic personality, helps Kōsei return to the music world and shows him that MUSIC should be free and mould-breaking. As she continues to uplift him, he quickly realizes that he loves her, and slowly there is a little love polygon going on in the story. Well, seriously, the love polygon is not that intense as Nagi no Asukara and many other love stories. This story is heavily focused on Kōsei's character development and eventual return into the music world.

First, Kousei got dragged by Kaori in the music world...

...and then struggles to perform solo...

...and then comes term with his traumatic past...

...learns to teach someone,...

...almost spirals into another round of depression,...

...to become the person he is NOW.

And well, as the story goes on, we are informed that Kaori is struck by an unnamed disease that she had as a child. Not long, her condition got worse as Kōsei continues to advance in the world of music and away from the past that plagued him after his mother's death. Oh yeah, about what disease did Kaori had? I don't know, nobody knows. It is not mentioned but there is numerous speculation on this. You can check it out if you had finished watching. Oh yeah, the ending of this story. Let's move on.

Kaori on the hospital bed...

At the end...You know what? I would say that the ending is bittersweet. Bitter because...Never mind, you can watch it yourself...Seriously, it will make you tear up. As for the sweet part, Kōsei has finally got over his stricken past COMPLETELY and continue into a new journey, an uncharted future. Beautiful, isn't it? NOW, go and watch it. Really, it's a good watch in ways that it has scenes that make you immerse into the music life and bring life to classic music, which is deemed as dry and lifeless. But you will need to use a lot of tissues and possibly a few handkerchiefs to wipe your tears as you journey your way to the ending because of the HUGE amount of emotional moments and emotional roller coaster. So, now, let's move on this blog post with me presenting you with some screenshots and PV.
