Introduction

The manga cover...

OK, let's delve into the anime's background real quick. This anime is adapted from the arcade game with the same name, Pretty Rhythm (in Japanese, プリティーリズム). It has been adapted into a manga series by Mari Asabuki. Oh yeah, it has, like 4 anime adaption. The one that I'm going talk about here is by Tatsunoko Production, which is titled Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream (in Japanese, プリティーリズム・オーロラドリーム) and was aired in Japan between April 2011 and March 2012.

One of the scenes in Aurora Dream...

Can you believe it? I had just recently watched a series from like 5 to 6 years ago! Anyway, it is followed by a sequel, Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future (in Japanese, プリティーリズム・ディアマイフューチャー), which took me a while to finish as I need to catch up with my studies. Oh yeah, it was aired between April 2012 and March 2013. Again, another series that was from, like 4 to 5 years ago.

Well, there is also a third series, which is Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live (プリティーリズム・レインボーライブ). It is aired on April 6, 2013, to March 29, 2014. Well, I'm not too interested in that for now as I need to focus on my studies more and it is more like an alternate universe 'sequel' than an actual sequel.

Well, there is also a film (titled Pretty Rhythm All-Star Selection: Prism Show☆Best Ten) was released on March 8, 2014, and somehow, of course, a fourth series was released, titled Pretty Rhythm: All-Star Selection (in Japanese, プリティーリズム・オールスターセレクション), which is pretty much a recall series than a sequel before Pretty Rhythm is phased out to be replaced by the Pripara series (in 2014). It was aired on April 5, 2014, to June 14, 2014. Oh yeah, there is also the King of Prism film series, which is King of Prism by Pretty Rhythm and King of Prism: PRIDE the HERO. This film series is a spinoff of Rainbow Live, which is a...never mind, let's just move on.

Plot

Now, to the plot of Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream. Why the name Aurora Dream? You will see when I tell you and as you watch the series progresses on. One more thing, the anime always have a special show on developing of the three girls into the now already disbanded girls group, Prizimmy☆. It starts after the OP song ended and ends before the anime starts and it continues after each episode of the anime ends and ends before the ED ends. There is also a special 'speech' that plays before the start of the OP of each episode, which continues until episode 10. This 'speech' will have an interesting appearance in Dear My Future, which in my opinion, ends the continuity of Pretty Rhythm in Aira's universe. You'll see. Now, let me officially start to tell the story.

The story revolves around a klutzy girl named Harune Aira. She was somehow, in many weird circumstances was dragged along with another girl named Amamiya Rizumu, to perform in a Prism Show that Takamine Mion should perform (in which she didn't even appear). They became Prism Star from that day onwards. In the beginning, Aira starts to get cold feet as she has no idea of what a Prism Show is. Well, as for Rizumu, she is only aiming to perform the mysterious "Aurora Rising", a legendary Prism Jump which her mother once performed despite failing to perform any sort of Prism Jump.

The ill-fated dance showdown...

Well, during the roll between Aira and Rizumu. Rizumu challenged her to a dance showdown, which Aira fails miserably. Why the showdown? Aira was able to perform a Prism Jump despite having a terrible balance and unable to dance properly. As for Rizumu, well, it's the opposite. Good at dancing but can't perform a Prism Jump. Well, you could've guessed it, don't you? After a bit help and bonding time with Aira, she was able to perform a Prism Jump. They started to take special lessons in order to improve themselves in their weak points with the coaching of Bear-chi and Rabbi-chi.

They passed their test!!!

Cut the long story short, after Aira wins the Tiara Cup with just her normal clothes, Takamine Mion suddenly shows up and it changes everything. In the midst of this, they found out that Mion is a very stubborn idol who is just one year older than the two of them. Their friendship starts to grow and it finally blossoms during their defeat in the Summer Queen Cup to Serenon, a comedy and Prism Idol duet of Serena and Kanon. The result is the formation of MARs, which consists the three of them.

The formation of MARs...

They later encounter a younger girl named Chris Kaname who is able to copy others' Prism Jumps, including the Aurora Rising. Later, they found out that there's more to the Aurora Rising than what meets the eye, and that mastering it is not anyone's cup of tea. Now, I will answer on why the name Aurora Dream. It's because the WHOLE STORY revolves around the legendary Prism Jump, Aurora Rising and Aira's legendary jump in the Prism Queen Cup, which allows her to win the cup.

The girl is Chris Kaname...

OK, anyway, they also found out that Rizumu's mother is Sonata Kanzaki, a legendary idol who performed the Aurora Rising but disappeared soon after, where she now has a strained relationship with her daughter. There are many things that happened before Aira becomes the Prism Queen by defeating Mion with an OTT (Over The Top) marks. There is Rizumu's Dark Aurora Rising that almost consume her, Mion's attempt to create a Prism Jump that could match or even surplus the Aurora Rising and Aira's attempt to master and perform the Aurora Rising...there is a lot to catch. You NEED to watch to know it. It's AMAZING to watch. The best season of the WHOLE Pretty Rhythm franchise easily. Anyway, let's move on.

Rizumu's family reunion...so sweet.

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 10/10)

The story is well constructed, touching at times and really have a lot of funny moment. Well, I cried on many of the touching moments in the anime. What?! Don't look at me funny! In my opinion, I think this anime is quite underrated as an idol anime.

The reunion of MARs...

Art and Animation (Rating: 6/10)

I think the arts and animation of the anime are fine. I'm fine with the slight change in animation during Prism Shows. If you don't like that, well, that would be a downside for you.

The slight change in animation during Prism Shows...

Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)

The BGM is well-suited in the anime. One of my favourite songs in the anime is 1st OP song, You May Dream. I absolutely loved it. That's all. Anyway, the songs in the anime are not that bad. Some of them are pretty good.

OP song...

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Characters? Oh well, the characters are well designed and tailored in very well with the story. The development of each of the main characters is well done. My favourite character is definitely Aira. She has the best development of all. She becomes the Prism Queen from a girl who has a lack of balance, clumsy and had NO idea about Prism Show. Great design, great design.

MARs...Mion, Aira, Rizumu!

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

I enjoyed the anime REALLY much. I enjoy the tear-jerking moments, funny and serious moments. Every one of them is precious, precious moments. I really enjoyed it.

Overall Rating: 8.8 (6.8)/10

Anime PV

As for the anime PV for this...I'm sorry that I can't find it. If can, good for you since this is quite an old anime. Older anime's PV is really difficult to find if not impossible. It's the truth.

Conclusion

Well, it looks like it's the end of this post. Anyway, I had watched Pretty Rhythm second season (which is named Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future). I will review as soon as I can but it will take a while because I had a lot of anime review that I had to put them on a hold during my finals. I've nothing more to say but to thank you for reading until the end of this post. So, God bless you and hope to have you here again. Bye!

A special picture of MARs for all!!!
