Introduction

The manga cover

Let's start with the introduction, Kiniro Mosaic (or in Japanese, きんいろモザイク)  is an anime adapted from a Japanese 4-panel manga written and illustrated by Yui Hara. The name Kiniro Mosaic literally means Golden Mosaic, it's kinda interesting, isn't it? The anime is also known by the abbreviation of Kinmoza (in Japanese, きんモザ).

Kiniro Mosaic season 1!

Anyway, I will talk a bit about the manga first. The manga series began in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in June 2010 and is licensed in English by Yen Press much later (duh!). As for the anime, it is adapted by Studio Gokumi and aired in Japan between July and September 2013 for the first season. AND the second season was airing between April and June 2015. Oh yeah, did I mention that there is an OVA (short for Original Video Animation) was released in March 2017? Well, I probably did mention about the OVA (if I'm not mistaken) but not the date of release.

Kiniro Mosaic season 2!

Plot

Yep! Shinobu blonde hair obsession...

Anyways, let's start to talk about the story. It starts with a Japanese high school girl, Omiya Shinobu had a homestay in England had a homestay in England five years ago. She had a homestay in a house of a girl, Alice Cartelet. Of course, Alice's parents are there too. Duh! Anyway, from that encounter, we get to know Shinobu's obsession with blond hair. LOL!

They are getting along with other...

Anyway, as they spend more with each other, they start to become closer to each other even though they have an obvious language barrier. This encounter makes Alice determined to learn Japanese. Just like me! Just joking! But the learning Japanese part is real. You want me to try to write the review in Japanese? Can! Will give a short one, probably.

Alice!

Putting that aside, 5 years after that fateful day, Shinobu receives a letter from Alice saying she is coming to Japan to live with her. Surely enough, Alice appears but not before meeting Aya Komichi and Yoko Inokuma beforehand asking them the whereabouts of Shinobu. Well, guess what? She and Shinobu together with Aya and Yoko are placed in the same class. Well, the hilarious interaction between the four of them had started.

Karen!

And then, Alice's childhood friend from England, Karen Kujo appears as she also decided to follow Alice. Wow...she is rich like, seriously rich. Anyway, she joins the 4-person gang and spice up further the already hilarious interaction between the four of them had started. Well, many other side characters that join the 5-person comedy combo or sometimes having a short funny scene of their own.

The gathering of the gang...

Well, as for the second season...there's nothing much to say about it. It is basically more like just further tightening the friendship and further enhance the dynamics between characters. Well, there is some addition to the number of characters but other than that, cute and funny as usual. Oh yeah, I've forgotten about the OVA. As for the OVA is about Shinobu and the gang helping to prepare for the school festival stuff, together with some flashback on the 'original 3-person gang', which consist of Aya, Yoko and Shinobu. It's a really nice and sweet episode. Go and watch it.

From the OVA...Ayaya! Ayaya! Ayaya!

As an anime that is adapted from a four-panel manga, there is basically nothing to say much about the story and its plot even if I am talking about both seasons of it. You REALLY should go and watch it for yourself IF you reading this without actually have watched the anime. It is really CUTE and funny! Trust me, it will be worthwhile. Both seasons of this anime are very good. OK, shall we move on? Because it's time for the rating!

Anime Rating

Season 1

Story (Rating: 10/10)

There is not much of story plot, to begin with. BUT the directors did well to assemble the 4-panel comic to tell a story. THAT is amazing. Anyway, as the story progresses on, there are a lot of light-hearted moments and funny moments to behold. Pretty much the same thing as Gocchumon when I was rating it, isn't it?

The flashback...

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

The arts and animation? It is quite good actually. Not the best but hey, it's just me. I love this anime very much. I'm biased! Hahaha! Just deal with it. Anyway, its animation is consistent and well drawn. Nothing much to complain about.

Be my bride...LOL!

Sound and Music (Rating: 9/10)

As for the music, the BGM is good. Well, it should be, no, it must be well-placed! Anyway, it's a rarity that I like both the opening and ending theme song. BUT sorry to say that, I heard much better theme songs than these two. So, no full marks for this section.

Sweet picture for the OP...Awww...

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

The characters in the story develop and change over time BUT the interactions between the different characters didn't change. THAT is what I like about this kind of anime but there is a good thing about some changes in the interaction between characters (of course, it depends on the situations). BTW, the interactions between the different characters are pretty funny and cute, AND the characters are really cute!!!

LOL...what is this drama about?

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

Just like Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu Ka anime, I had enjoyed it! What else I could say? The characters are cute, the interactions between them are cute and it always gives a good amount of cuteness when I need it. Hehe! I admit that I should have rewatched it sooner! Haiz...

That fight for Shino...

Overall Rating: 9.4 (9.25)/10

Season 2

Story (Rating: 10/10)

Just like season 1, just amazing!!!!! Just like the previous season, the story is well done, good amount of cuteness is there and enjoying moments to behold. Of course, not as cute as Gochuumon though. I'm not gonna compare Gochuumon with this anime. So, the mark is not influenced by this comparison.

LOL!

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Just like the previous season, I just LIKE IT!!!! It's probably just me. I love this anime very much. I'm biased! Hahaha! I know, right? Just deal with it! Anyway, its animation is consistent and well drawn. Nothing much to complain about. No degrading in quality.

They are so CUTE!!! From left: Inokuma Mitsuki, Inokuma Kota

Sound and Music (Rating: 7/10)

As for the music in season 2, the BGM is good. Well, it should be, no, it must be well-placed every time! Anyway, both the opening and ending theme song are quite good BUT sadly, no full marks. Sorry.

From the OP for season 2

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Like the previous season, the characters in the story develop and change over time BUT the interactions between the different characters didn't change. That is what makes KinMoza likeable! AND I'm glad that they did not change that! BTW, the interactions between the different characters are pretty funny and cute, AND the characters are really cute!!!

The twins...liar...They are cute BTW.

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

Just like the previous season, I had enjoyed it! What else I could say? The characters are cute, the interactions between them are cute and it always gives a good amount of cuteness when I need it. Hehe! I should have rewatched it sooner! Haiz...

What a sweet ending...

Overall Rating: 9 (8.75)/10

OVA

Story (Rating: 10/10)

As for the OVA, great tell of the background between Aya and Yoko, a great story on the making of the drama for the school festival. Cute and well-told.

The gang is back again!!!

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Just like the previous season, I just LIKE IT!!!! Yeah, yeah, you think that I will say that phrase again! It will be too BORING if I do that again. Anyway, its animation is consistent and well drawn. Nothing much to complain about. No degrading in quality.

Shinobu working on the dress...

Sound and Music (Rating: 7/10)

Well, the OVA had good BGM and it mostly just BGM. Oh yeah, there is one new song! It is a new song by Rhodanthe, which is Happy★Pretty★Clover! I'm fine with it and it's quite a cute and sweet song but sadly, it's not gonna be one of my favourite songs.

Aww...they are together again in the same school.

Look at Shinobu!!! LOL!!!!!!

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

Beautiful...and funny, of course. I really enjoyed it. The backstory of the 'original 3-person gang'. BUT sorry, no screenshots section for the OVA. If you insist on having more screenshots AND spoil yourself the story of the OVA, you can check out Anime Evo.

Well, that escalated quickly...
