Ah! What a good weather it is! Oh, hi, people! Welcome!

Hi, ppl! How are you? I'm doing fine. I took about a week of leave so I'm free to catch with my anime and have the time to write a new blog post. I've slow to update this blog. I'm sorry. Work, work, work. It feels nice to be able to write about Girls und Panzer, Takagi-san and Mondaiji though.

Oh man, so nostalgic...

Anyway, this time I will be talking about an anime film by a popular director, Tenki no Ko (or in English, Weathering with You). This director (Shinkai Makoto) has directed Kimi no Na wa...AH!!!! I have forgotten to talk about it! Anyway, I will talk about it next time but now, time for Tenki no Ko.

WARNING:-

SPOILER ALERT!!! If you haven't watched it and plan to watch it without anyone being the spoiler, please DON'T CONTINUE READING!!!

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You HAD been warned. Don't blame me for being spoiled if you INSIST on continuing to read this post.

Introduction

The movie...

This movie, Weathering with You (in Japanese, 天気の子. Read as Tenki no Ko) is a 2019 anime movie. It is an original work of the director, Makoto, not an adaptation. I have watched it last year when it was up in my country. Yeah! Victory pose...

Your Name...oh, that reminds me of something...

Anyway, with that aside, it is directed by none other than Shinkai Makoto, who directed the popular Kimi no Na wa (in English, Your Name). I didn't watch it until last year. Well, it took me a while to start watching it. The film was produced by CoMix Wave Films, Genki Kawamura, and Story Inc., and the music was composed by Radwimps.

The manga...

One interesting thing is that there is a manga adaptation done by Kubota Watari. It was first serialized in Kodansha's Afternoon on July 25 the same year. The movie has been given the Japanese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. The movie has also received four Annie Award nominations. COOL! Anyway, let's move on.

Great picture...

Plot

Hodaka in the rain...

The story begins with a high school boy named Morishima Hodaka who ran away from home to Tokyo. Why? I dunno. The best reason that they gave was he felt pressured and wants to release himself from there. There is no detailed answer. This is pretty typical of Makoto's work, just like Your Name. Ahem! Let's move on.

Hina flying to the sky!

The weird thing is that the city of Tokyo is consistently raining, like literally. We are also then being introduced to a girl named Amano Hina through a little interesting incident involving rain. Wow...it gonna be some supernatural incident? Ya, it is. That incident gave her some supernatural power and brought her the sky above Tokyo. Magic, isn't it?

Having a hard time...

Anyway, the boy struggles to survive in Tokyo until he decided to call the guy who had saved back when he was taking a ship into Tokyo. That guy, Suga Keisuke runs a small publishing company, which write some pretty interesting articles including an urban legend about the unusually rainy weather in Tokyo. This boy met the female MC, Hina when she has been intimidated into working at a sketchy club. He saved her in an unexpected manner...with a REAL gun. OMG! Nobody died and injured by it.

Praying for a sunny day...

...and they got it.

After spending some time with her while working in that office for Suga, he found that Hina has the supernatural power to make the weather to become sunny for a moment. Freaky stuff, right? Anyway, with that, they started to earn money using that power. Hina used it in order to earn some money for her and her younger brother because her parents have passed away. Hina would provide her mysterious ability to people who want clear weather for special events. Their business becomes a success and they attract a large number of clients.

Hodoka coming to get Hina...

...and got her back to Earth.

In a twist, Hodoka is wanted...not only for that gun incident but also about his running away from home. Hina is also dragged into this and is being informed that the social service will take her brother, Nagi. What is worst is that Suga fires him and gives him severance pay in order to get himself the custody of his daughter. They decided to run but failed and Hina disappeared into the skies because of the use of that power. Hodoka tries everything to get Hina back to Earth in spite of being wanted by the police. He successfully got her back and everything has come to an end.

They got together again...Awww...

After three years, Hodoka graduated from high school and successfully gets himself to Tokyo, which is half-submerged. He once again meets Suga, who has expanded his business and pushes him to see Hina. He then looks for Hina, whom he has not spoken to in the last three years. While walking on a rainy day, he finds Hina praying on the other end of the street, and the two are finally reunited. Ah, happily ever after? To be honest, people might not really like this ending but I feel that it is the right ending for this story.

Let's GO!!!!!!

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 8/10)

The plot of the story is pretty good but is not as intense as Your Name. I...can't really explain why, to be frank, but I can feel that it is not as impactful as compare to Kimi no Na wa. Anyway, the flow and pacing of the story are well done. The story is pretty easy to understand if you are not trying to understand all of the nuances of this show. The lack of background story does hurt the show a bit though. And also, the lesson at the end of the story might not to everybody's likings. Well, there is also the climate change implication in the story. I'm not gonna further illustrate as I will do further analysis of the story next time.

A glimpse of that power...

Art and Animation (Rating: 10/10)

The art and animation...what can I say? It's just on another level as compared to many of the anime that I've watched in recent years. The details of the individual raindrops as falls to the ground is just phenomenal. The characters are also pretty well-drawn though. xD

Wow...amazing drawing skills

Sound and Music (Rating: 10/10)

Good music as usual for Makoto's work. Great BGM and great theme songs.

Beautiful clouds

Characters (Rating: 9/10)

The characters development are mainly about relationships and interaction with each other. Although the lack of background of the main characters hurts a bit, it doesn't hurt the overall attachment to the main characters. The characters are relatable in terms of their feelings for one other and the desire to want to be together. Of course, there are some people who don't what they did in the end.

Hina smiling...

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

I enjoyed it overall. I didn't really bother about the end where they choose to sacrifice others in order to be together. Is it right to sacrifice others when you have the chance to save them by sacrificing what you treasure just because you feel that the world doesn't care about you? I dunno and I dun care. I dun wanna answer that question for you. You answer it yourself. There are so many questions to ask but I'm not there to ask these questions. Maybe I will ask these questions (and maybe answer them) when I can afford the time and chance to study this movie. Anyway, I really enjoy this movie.

Beautiful scene...

Overall Rating: 9.4 (9.25)/10

It's been a while since I have written a blog about a certain movie. I have finished watching Non Non Biyori movie and Buta Yarou movie. I will talk about it next time. As for the screenshots for this movie, I will update this blog and do the usual stuff, so do look forward to it. Well, anyway, that's the end of this post. I hope that you enjoy reading and enjoy browsing this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you! And still, a Happy Chinese New Year!
