Introduction
Pop Ascort, the single. |
Eternally Flickering Flame or Eternal Light or in my words, Everlasting Light (in Japanese, 永遠の灯) is the song featured for the Gothic House Stage and Nightmare Party Stage. It is one of the songs that debuted in the 5th collection of the Data Carddass Aikatsu! 2014 Series and in Episode 89 of the anime. It also appeared in Aikatsu episode 106 and Aikatsu On Parade's episode 17, which are different stories. It was sung by Remi and Fuuri from STAR☆ANIS. There are a few versions but only one version has the full song, which is the one by Remi and Fuuri from STAR☆ANIS. It is in the single, Pop Ascort.

Yurika and the rose |
According to the Aikatsu Wiki, this song is a response song to Glass Doll, with Glass Doll being the point of view of the person being trapped, and Eternally Flickering Flame from the point of view of the person who wishes to save them. The song carries themes of enduring hope and the desire to connect with a fragile, fleeting heart. It speaks of an eternal future and the wish to erase a faded past, reflecting a longing for a brighter tomorrow. The lyrics suggest a narrative of breaking free from constraints and seeking a sliver of hope in a world waiting for its end. Well, well, they are on point. We will need to refer back to the episode where it was first played, episode 89 where there is a special interaction between Yurika and one of her fans.
That moment when Yurika get that request |
Yurika is asked into Headmistress Orihime's office and gets a request to promote a strawberry breakfast cereal. She accepts it to Orihime's surprise given that her vampire setting means she is weak to light. Well, she wants to try and well, well, that was a great success, given that the cereal sold out after that ad came out. Some events happened between here and what I'm about to get at but it's not important for what I'm about to say here.
Handshake event |
After that great success, Yurika's handshake event was held and met with a nervous little girl who dropped her book titled "Transformation Calendar", which got Yurika curious. Yurika summarised it and mentioned it as one of her favourites. With the little girl taking a bit too much time, the staff had to escort her away but the little girl managed to ask her a question that will get her thinking it through for the rest of the episode:
"Yurika-sama, how can I become as strong as you are?"
Later, when Yurika was paying Maya a visit, Maya noticed that she was troubled by something and decided to bring up some funny rumours he used to hear people say about him like eating live bats or using magic to make his outfits. Yurika laughs and feels better momentarily, and then she brings up what the little girl asked her. She had been thinking a lot about it, but she couldn't provide the answer and couldn't help but feel concerned.
As Maya was talking with Yurika... |
...Yurika's friends were telling Kaede about her previous scandal. |
While Maya reminisces on how troubled she was back when they first met, back at Starlight Academy, Ichigo, Aoi, Ran, and Kaede discuss the scandal Yurika had been involved in around the time when Maya and Yurika met. Remember that story that I told back in that Glass Doll blog post? Yep, that is it. This is why it is regarded as the response song to Glass Doll.
That moment |
...when Yurika once again showed us in this manner |
To make the story short, during a performance where she reveals her new dress, Kaede and Ichigo get to locate the girl who asked her the question, Chimaki in that performance hall. They brought her to see Yurika backstage and to their surprise they found that Yurika had come out dressed as her non-idol self, with her hair worn loose and her glasses on. Yurika tells her that if she wishes to change herself, she should do it a little at a time, and she provides a few easy examples while preparing her hair for her performance. Finishing, she takes off to change into her brand new dress and appears on stage to perform "Eternally Flickering Flame". Well, the story ends on a happy note as that little girl decides to change her little by little.
I personally think that the two songs perfectly complement each other. Glass Doll talks about a person who is trapped inside a cage and has become fearful of the world outside the cage while Eternally Flickering Flame talks about saving that trapped soul and the desire to bring the person out from that cage, even when it means that they have to run to the ends of the world. Great songs. Both of them. What? Episode 106? Well, it's just that it's Halloween and the song fits the theme. That's why Oozora Akari sang it. As for Aikatsu On Parade's episode 17, that whole episode is just a movie set and they just chose this song just because it fits the theme.

Conclusion
Oh, you reached here? Great to have you here. Finally, I get to write this blog post after a busy period. I wanted to write it up before my busy period but I had to attend my grandma's funeral because of her sudden passing. Anyway, I hope you have read and enjoyed some of my old blog posts. Goodbye, and God bless you!
