Hi, ppl. Welcome. OK, let's get into the topic. As promised, I will destroy the animators of Arifureta. I will teach them a lesson on world-building and story-building...hehehe...

Cute loli!!!!!

Anyway, there are good points on this anime but the world-build...Never mind, you will see it for yourself when I further elaborate on it. Well, it's been a while since I have a short passage before the page break.

Introduction

The anime...

This series, Arifureta Shokugyō de Sekai Saikyō (or in its English translation, Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest) started as a web novel, which started publishing in print since 2015. The light novel is written by Ryo Shirakome and illustrated by Takayaki. It is then licensed in English by J-Novel Club, with Seven Seas Entertainment publishing them in print.

The manga...or is this the light novel?

Ever the release of the series, it has received a manga adaptation, which is serialized on Ovelap's Comic Gardo website since 2016. It also has a four-panel comedy spinoff manga. In 2017, it got a  prequel light novel and a manga adaptation of the prequel novel. As for the anime television series adaptation, it is done by White Fox and Asread, which was aired from July 8 to October 7, 2019. A second season has been announced despite having major flaws in the adaptation. I dunno why but let's move on from here, shall we?

Plot

A dark place...

The story in the light novel uses a different style than the anime adaptation. The light novel does properly introduce some background of how the MC (together with his classmates and teacher) before going into the scene where the anime started, which is the MC, Nagumo Hajime fell into the deeper parts of the labyrinth because of someone shooting him down. The anime started from there and only briefly talk about how did Hajime get here, not even making a proper introduction to the world throughout the whole anime series. sigh...

This is the only way we know why the MC got here...

This is the place where they were brought...

Anyway, despite the poor below average world-building,...OK, you know what? It is poor! The only thing we know about the world is that the gods of that world exist and there are two major powers fighting, which are the human forces and the demons (or should I say 魔人族?). Anyway,...OK, I think it is just a very poor story-building. Do I still think that the world-building is just average? Maybe...not. I still think that at best, it is below average.

Hunting for monster meat...

OK, back to the topic. As the MC receives only the most average of magical abilities, he is not exactly a person that everybody looks up to. He is consistently being bullied by Hiyama Daisuke and his gang, in the world where he and his classmates are being summoned into and also back in Earth. Anyway, when he was in the dungeon, he is forced to eat monster meat, takes the Ambrosia and kills more monsters.

A trapped vampire loli!

Through his dungeon exploration, Hajime met with a powerful vampire (who was a former princess) being sealed in the dungeon. He saves her and brought her with him on his way to conquer the dungeon. In conquering the dungeon, the hidden truth of the world is being presented to us. After he and Yue prepare to get out the dungeon after taking time to prepare for the outside world, he finds himself unintentionally starting a route to getting a harem and adopting a cute loli as his daughter. OK, that is! Time to rant!

Slowly recalling on what happened there...

I have a lot of problem with the execution of the first episode. The background story is not being presented to us properly!!!! Although there is episode 5.5 and the anime has the presentation of the anime's backstory, the backstory is still lacking as the process of how he got to this world is ONLY expressed in a short slot of the opening sequence. Another issue that I have is that the anime gives us a terrible sense of space and location of the MC and his gang. We don't really have an idea where they are in the world. Yes, we do know the MC is in this forest and wherever is he and his gang are gonna go but we hardly know what the world looked like. And also the story building is bad. For example, we dunno how or when the MC knows the location of the dungeons. We are just being rushed through and is expected to accept that the MC and his gang know it better than us. Poor...Anyway, time to end this madness. Just watch these two videos below and you will understand it.

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 5/10)

5 out of 10...it's been a while or maybe didn't give this rating before? Anyway, whatever the case is. I need to emphasize that I could have given a much lower point than this. Why? I see that the story is much better than how the animator decided to make it. The interesting story of killing the gods of the world (potentially) and making his way out of the world to go back to Earth is interesting. The plot of the story is fine but it is being expressed poorly in the anime. As for the pacing and flow of the story, the first episode of the anime has already given us the impression that it will be rushed and a poorly planned one. And...we are right! Too fast and poorly done. Easy to understand the story? For me, I got to understand it after a few episodes but I still feel that we need better description and better presentation of the world that the MC is in.

The meeting to kickstart the adventure...

Art and Animation (Rating: 6/10)

Art and animation...hmmm...I would say decent. Nothing very outstanding. Pretty consistent. The girls are well-drawn. Cute girls!!!!! Anyway, overall, it is pretty generic and not very outstanding.

Thunderblast!

Sound and Music (Rating: 6/10)

The opening and closing theme songs are pretty good but they are not to my taste. I dun mind that as I do know that someone I know who likes the opening theme song. I do like the closing theme song a little. They are both good songs. As for BGM, they are fine. Don't worry. NEXT! xD

From the opening sequence...

Characters (Rating: 9/10)

Characters are probably the only few redeeming points of this anime adaptation. The MC's character development is actually being affected by the poor presentation of his backstory but it does redeem himself through the rest of the series. From him being a weakling in his group of classmates to being a badass loner and into being a person who cares for his comrades who he assembles involuntarily, his development is pretty good. The people who follow him also develops a relationship with him bit by bit. Pretty decent stuff there. Relatability? The rise of the MC to become powerful enough to fight in this cruel world. I like his resolve to defeat the enemies to go back home. The resolve that we need when war is at hand and when we need to get something important done. He dares to kill the demon who tries to kill his former classmates, which is something that

Cute couple...

Enjoyment (Rating: 6/10)

In spite of me enjoying some of the story progress, I still cannot fully enjoy it as I have complaints about its poor world-building and story-building... and also the anime's pacing. If the anime adaptation being well-executed, I could've enjoyed it more. I'm seriously disappointed with White Fox and asread's adaptation of this series because it could have been much better. It's not like they dun have good anime adaptations in the past. You have White Fox's Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka and asread's YuuShibu...sigh...whatever.

LMAO! That part!

Overall Rating: 6.4 (6.5)/10

Conclusion

When I was writing this, I was looking forward to trashing the animators for their bad work. Well, it looks like it's not as bad as it seems...Never mind. Anyway, I'm not putting much hope for their planned second season. OK, people, that's the end of my blog post. Do look forward to my next! I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing through this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you!

What a cute moment...
