It's finally time for LOVE LIVE SUPERSTAR!!! OH YEAH!!!!!

Hi, my fellow readers. How is life? Currently, it's not great for me recently because of job-related stuff and the covid pandemic, things are not exactly going smooth. Anyway, despite these issues, I finally made a new blog post. Do enjoy reading it. Also, don't forget the other blog post that I have on this site. AHEM! Putting my shameless self-promo aside, I would like to present another anime this time around but because of the few new inspirations and low motivation level, I had a hard time to start writing up my blog posts. This post will be about LOVE LIVE! SUPERSTAR!! LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Live Superstar!!!!

Love Live! Superstar!! (in Japanese: ラブライブ！スーパースター!!) is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by Kadokawa Corporation, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise. The project is already the fourth instalment in Love Live! franchise. I seriously thought that Love Live Nijigasaki is the end of the Love Live franchise but nope, Sunrise and Lantis kinda slapped me in the face, telling me that it's not. I did have a lot of posts on this franchise. I'm not gonna elaborate on each one of them one by one.

Back to the topic, the anime television series was first aired on NHK Educational TV from July 11 to October 17, 2021. Wait, what?! NHK Educational TV?! Wow... I... how do I even comment on this? Ah, also, a second season will premiere in July 2022. Wait, what?! That is like about 3 months from now!!! I'm too hyped to wait until the second half of the year to do both seasons. So, yeah, move on. Let's continue this!!!!

Plot

Kanon playing her guitar

The story starts with Shibuya Kanon singing while playing the guitar on the roof. Ah...beautiful singing voice...I dun have that kind of voice. My singing voice isn't terrible but neither is it that good. Ahem! Let's go back to the topic. Shall we?

Kanon happily talks about her dream...

...and well, crushed by her nervousness.

She dreamt of entering the music program of Yuigaoka Private Girls High School (私立結ヶ丘女子高等学校). Well, when it matters the most (which is at the audition), she failed because she can't even sing it out aloud when facing the judges. Oof. That feels...until her singing voice was heard by a Chinese girl named Tang Ke Ke (or if you like you can go with the Japanese pronunciation, Tan Kuu Kuu) who will be her schoolmate and classmate, and later, the one who will change her life forever.

Ke Ke chased after Kanon to ask her to join her venture to become a school idol. Well, she ran after Ke Ke and rambled a bunch of stuff to Kanon with slang that I have a hard time understanding until I take a good listen and see the subs. Holy. Wow. What is more impressive is that Ke Ke is voiced by a Chinese from China.

Initially rejected her but return to join anyway...

AHEM! Back to the topic. Cut the long story short. Ke Ke later tried everything to convince her to join her cause but she was still being rejected because of Kanon's lack of confidence and her multiple failures to sing in public multiple times. Interesting, she later then changed her mind and decided to join her course because she loves singing and wants to break the hoodoo of not being able to sing in public.

And then, in a similar playbook to the previous Love Live franchise, the team that Ke Ke and Kanon formed gained more and more members after their first performance. Their first performance together was in the local school idol competition, in which they lost to the nationwide super school idol and only won the best freshman school idol award. Nice! Also, they are taught by Kanon's best friend, who is really good at dancing, Arashi Chisato. Did she join the group, you asked? The answer is nope, not yet, my friends.

Anyway, after that, a certain Heanna Sumire joined...Well, not without its perks and rough times because of Sumire's experience and ambition. After that, Chisato joined but only after she won the dancing competition because she felt that she needs to prove that she can do it alone. Well, does it really matter that much? Just asking.

Hasuki Ren. A tough nut to crack...

Anyway, the last member to join was Hazuki Ren. Well, she is a tough nut to crack because she is the daughter of the now-deceased founder who happens to be the best friend of the current school director. Interesting...her mother was the school idol of a certain school that previously used this compound and is now already defuncted?! WOW...OK, I think I need to explain this a bit before moving on.

Ren's mom's school idol days...

The current school once hosted the now-defunct school, Jingu Music School (神宮音楽学校). Ren's mother becomes the school idol together with the two other unnamed individuals to save the school like what μ's and Aquors did before (Well, there isn't any reference to them in the anime). Sadly, like Aquors, they failed to do so and the school is closed until Ren's mother reopened the school with a different name, which is the name of the academy where our main protagonists are enrolled in.

Time to address the students...

Ren wasn't on friendly terms with the newly formed school idol club because she thought that her mother regretted being a school idol due to the lack of any official record of it. Our main protagonists found the school idol diary that Ren's mother left in the school idol clubroom. They went to the stage where Ren was addressing the policy of favouring the students from the music program in the school festival and turning back on her election promises of treating all students fairly for the festival, which didn't go down well as it worsen the existing rifts between the students of the ordinary and music program.

Anyway, our protagonist told Ren about what is in the diary at that stage, which later soften her heart and break down into tears as she hold the idol dress that her mother once used. During her speech to Ren on stage, she also mentioned that her mother wished that this school will be bond together with music, just like her days as a school idol. That speech made all students from both sides put down the rifts that they had with each other and work together to make the school festival a success. What's more, Ren joins the gang, together with Kanon, Sumire, Ke Ke and Chisato. They even performed together at the school festival!

Sunny Passion!

Oh, end of the story? Not so quick. Sunny Passion...oh, they are that nationwide super school idol that beat Kanon and Ke Ke in the local school idol competition. This school idol group plays an important role that makes them grow. Interesting. Anyway, cut the long story short, Sunny Passion beats them at the qualifiers to become the representative for Tokyo in the Love Live competition. That defeat gives the team, especially Kanon more drive to win the Love Live competition. Well, Imma end it here as it is getting a bit too long.

Story (Rating: 10/10)

Plot...this franchise is unlike Nijigasaki but very similar to the first two Love Live franchises. Well, this franchise doesn't have the "I wanna save this school" atmosphere. Well, their performance did aid the school in terms of bringing in more student enrollments. Anyway, the story has a nostalgic feel to me as a Love Live fan. The flow and pacing of the story are just nice. And also, the story is really easy to understand.

Art and Animation (Rating: 9/10)

I think this Love Live animation is better than its predecessors. The characters are pretty nice and the background sceneries are also really good. The animation is also pretty consistent despite having 3D animation sequences in the singing and dancing parts.

Sound and Music (Rating: 9/10)

The opening and closing theme songs... both... I like it really quite a lot. The insert songs are pretty good too. Ah, BGM? Nice. xD

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

The character...the idea of having only five people in the main protagonist's idol group is good stuff. It gives more time for each of them for character development, which is great stuff. Each character is pretty unique in their way although you still can find certain parallels by comparing them to characters from previous characters, like Ke Ke and Hanayo (both are Love Live fans). Likeable? That depends on you. For me, not really, for now. I think.

The nostalgic feel, the tension, the fact that I like this better than Nijigasaki because it gives a feeling that I'm way too familiar with for Love Live anime...Good reasons to like and enjoy it. xD
