Introduction

Osamake anime

The series, Osamake (おさまけ), short for Osananajimi ga Zettai ni Makenai Rabu Kome (幼なじみが絶対に負けないラブコメ) is a series that started as a Japanese romantic comedy light novel series written by Shuuichi Nimaru and illustrated by Ui Shigure back on June 8, 2019. The series even has an English name, which I dun really like to use: Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won't Lose. Anyway, after that, on November 27, 2019, it gets a manga adaptation with art by Ryou Itou that is been serialized in Media Factory's seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive. As for the anime television series adaptation, it is animated by the studio Doga Kobo and aired from April 14 to June 30, 2021.

Plot

The main character, Sueharu Maru & his friend,

Shida Kuroha

The story starts with a normal single seventeen-year-old high school boy named Sueharu Maru, with a normal life. He has a childhood friend who is a cute girl who is popular among the boy. She is Shida Kuroha. The issue is that he just rejected her confession not that long ago because he only has eyes for his first love, Kachi Shirokusa, who is a beautiful idol and an award-winning author in school. Wow... talk about awkward.

Oh...oops.

The meeting that changed the game...

Later, he finds out that Shirokusa already has a boyfriend, breaking his heart. Who is this boyfriend, you asked? Well, it is Abe Mitsuru, a popular guy in school. Then, Kuroha approaches him, offering to help him get revenge on Shirokusa and her boyfriend. Ooh...interesting, isn't it? Do you know what is their way of getting revenge? Pretend to date each other to erk Shirokusa. Wait, what the? Wow...ya...

Mitsuru meeting with Sueharu...

Anyway, he later then found out that Abe Mitsuru is a big fan of Subaru when Sueharu was a prominent child actor. Well, he was trying to erk him by pretending to be Shirokusa's boyfriend. Why? So, he will return to be an actor. Wow. Mitsuru was planning to confess on stage in the school festival, which further erks Maru and gets him to plan to beat Mitsuru in his own game. It so happens that was Mitsuru's plan, as we will find out later.

Sweeter time for Sueharu

Back to the story. The main character prepares for the stage performance to beat Mitsuru's plan, even when he still had some trauma. What trauma, you ask? It was about how his mother died in an accident on set, not because she was actually being hit but because she fall to the ground too hard and killed herself. That time he was acting alongside his mother. Wow. I don't think anyone could easily recover from that.

That performance moment

He did overcome his trauma and made a great performance to beat Mitsuru's plan. He did make his love confession on stage but it's not to Shirokusa. It was to Kuroha. Wow, what a twist. There I thought it's gonna go well but Kuroha's surprising rejection (somehow for the sake of revenge) slap right on my face REAL hard. From there on, the whole story went into high gear. FOR REAL.

Getting so mad...

The story later revealed to us that every girl who is close to him and is interested in him romantically knew the MC as a child and are his childhood friends. Wait, what?! I thought it will a typical harem anime but all of them are childhood friends?! Wait, isn't that cheating?! In that situation, of course, the childhood friends will win NO MATTER WHAT! sigh...I hoped that the childhood friend would win in a normal harem anime setting but I guess not.

Maria incoming!!!

Anyway, another new girl (who also is his childhood friend) came into the fray and further make the competition for the MC's affection even messier. She is Momosaka Maria who is currently a famous actress known for starring in the hit drama The Ideal Little Sister. Oh, you think that is huge? Oh, no, no, the video on his confession arc and stage performance are on the internet and on TV because his friend, Kai Tetsuhiko uploaded the video.

Questionable relationship...

Wow...yeah, from there, his life is no longer the same. Oh, we would also find out that Tetsuhiko and Mitsuru have some sort of secretive relationship. Whether are they co-conspirators in bringing Suemaru back to his old days, we dunno about that. Personally, I dun think so as they have their ulterior motives and don't seem to align with each other. I'm not gonna narrate the story because the story beyond this centres around how the three girls vying for Sueharu's affection while making their new circle a hit by making videos and doing what famous Youtubers stuff.

What a way to end the anime...

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 8/10)

The story is really interesting. I initially thought that only one is the childhood friend and that friend wins the main character's heart. Oh no, it's every one of them. Wait...wasn't it a similar case with a certain anime called Nisekoi? Whatever. Anyway, the story is generally similar to the usual harem but it's really clear that all of them are childhood friends. As for the pacing and the flow of the story, it is pretty good. Since it's a harem but just with a clear indication that they are all childhood friends, the story is not hard to understand. Well, the story's plot is still pretty fresh though, in my opinion.

Practically, this is what happened most of the time in this anime...

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Cute girls, good animation, nice art...it's as good as it gets. I enjoyed it. xD

MARIA!!!!! YOU SO CUTE!!!!

Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)

The opening theme song is really good but as usual, I'm not really a huge fan of the ending theme song even though it is pretty good. As for BGM, it's pretty decent. Nothing more to say.

From the opening sequence...

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

MOMOSAKA MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHEM! Anyway, cute girls with nice, funny and interesting interactions with each other, other characters and the main character? Great stuff. Oh? Character development? Well, there are some interesting developments but in my opinion, the most notable development is that the main character becomes indecisive in terms of choosing which girl to date at the end of the anime. Also, I like Maria. Period. Good enough to warrant a full mark.

CUTE MARIA!!!!!!!!!

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

I enjoyed watching this anime in general. Although the confession scene got me cringing, the whole story is generally eye-catching to me and pretty good. Well, the only reason why I felt cheated is that all of the girls that are close to him are childhood friends so, of course, the childhood friend is likely to win this whole love battle. Anyway, NEXT!!!

Maria...no BDSM, please...

Overall Rating: 8.8 (8.5)/10

Conclusion

The scene that I'm talking about

Oh, you reached here? Good. A bit of something I would like to say before we end it. I actually wanted to complete this post earlier but I got a bit lazy and gotten a bit demotivated. Oh, by the way, there was a scene where the main character interacts with Shirokusa and falls in love. Well, it's not that important to include since I did mention that he was in love with her. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you!

MARIA-CHAN!!!!

Deja vu? Well, it is. Anyway, MARIA-CHAN!!!! UOOOOH!!!!!
