Introduction

The anime...

The anime, Anima Yell! (weirdly sounds very similar to the word anime) is adapted from a four-panel manga of the same name. The manga is drawn by Tsukasa Unohana and was first published in the  Houbunsha's teen manga magazine (or you can say seinen manga magazine), Manga Time Kirara Carat's April 2016 issue. Like most manga that I have talked about in this blog, the manga has its own tankōbon volumes (or special volumes). So far, it only had three volumes. As for the anime TV series adaption, it is done by Doga Kobo aired from October 7 to December 23, 2018.

Plot

Kohane...

...her first encounter with cheerleading.

The story starts with an energetic high school girl, Hatoya Kohane had become a HUGE fan of cheerleading after watching a cheerleading session. Her fandom sparked her desire to be in the cheerleading club in high school but sadly, there is no such club. So...she went her way to form the club, starting with her as the first member and recruiting others.

Hizume...

And then, she saw the former, veteran cheerleader Arima Hizume, whom she saw in the cheerleading session that captivated her. Hizume has refused to join Kohane's club when Kohane first invited her. After a few persistent invitation attempts from Kohane, she decided to join the club. But Kohane's best friend, Sawatari Uki didn't join the club initially. She joined the club when Kohane expressed her desire to be in the same club as her, becoming the 3rd member after Hizume and Kohane. With that, they have three members, which entitles them to form an association instead.

The three members...of the Cheerleading Association

Them cheering for Basuke-senpai's team

Well, they are required to get at least FIVE members before forming an official club. So, before they get the number of members required, they have done numerous cheerleading session and also done things that not exactly related to cheerleading in any way. This story consistently swings between doing random, weird and cute things to conducting numerous successful cheerleading sessions, which did attract new members and allowed them to officially form the Cheerleading Club. The people that join in the club are Tatejima Kotetsu and Ushiku Kana.

Kana, the stalker.

Kotetsu...quite a cute girl though

There are a lot of light-hearted scenes that are really funny and cute to watch. I like it! Well, maybe it's because I watch a lot of anime similar to this, like Hanayamata. Anyway, this anime is quite similar to anime like Love Live, Love Live Sunshine and Hanayamata. Why do I say that? All of them have one thing in common: one character (not necessarily the main character) created a club and invite others to join. Of course, all of them have differences in story and in the way of how they get their members. For me, I like this anime like the anime where the cute girls do cute things (and also funny things). CUTE GIRLS are the BEST!!!!!! Ahem, time to move on.

Uki...stop pretending that you are not gay.

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 7/10)

The story is really funny and fun to watch. The plot of the story mostly surrounds the cheerleading association (which later transforms into a club). The story doesn't have much depth as it is a comedy story. The story's flow is decent even as an anime adapted from a 4-panel manga. And also, good pacing! The story's pacing is fine, giving a good flow and giving the sense that the story is moving forward well.

Hizume...that horrified face...

Art and Animation (Rating: 6/10)

The art and animation of this anime are quite decent, well-drawn and consistent. The character's look is well-drawn too! Well, nothing too special about the animation but good arts and animations are praiseworthy.

The cheerleading team!!!

Sound and Music (Rating: 7/10)

The OP and ED did not become my jam, like most songs (duh!). BUT, the OP and ED are both quite cute and energetic, VERY suitable for this anime. As for the BGM, well done, I say. Well done! Anyway, let's move on.

Quite a nice pic. BTW, from the OP scene.

Characters (Rating: 8/10)

The characters are quite cute. I won't deny the fact that I start to watch this anime for the cute girls. I mean, why not?! Anyway, the character development is well done and helps in advancing the story. They not only slowly having a change in character for the main characters in the story but also the improvement in their skills and their relationship with each other. Hehe...I always love character development. TBH, the story could be slightly relatable in terms of cheerleading but other than that, I dun think so. Who on Earth has cute and funny things happen every day?

Cute girls gathering...

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

I do enjoy this anime because this is the "cute girls doing cute things" anime! YES!!! Anyway, it's me being bias. OK, I like the cute girls and the funny scenes in the show. I mean, why not? Life is hard and laughter is the best medicine. Oh...OK, let's move on.

SWIMSUIT!!!....

...with shoes...Really?

Overall Rating: 7.6 (7)/10
