Something is in the skies!!!

Hi, people. Welcome!!!! Umm...OK...OK! Anyway, sorry for that awkward silence. I'm here to start writing about a certain anime. Wait...isn't that what I usually do here?! Anyway, let's get back to the topic. Shall we?

The girls!!! (And also one boy.)

Anyway, today (well, more like in this blog post), I'm gonna talk about Sora no Method, or as it is translated, Celestial Method. I would usually use the Japanese name instead of the translated name. Well, this applies to any anime. OK, let's start! This one will be an emotional rollercoaster and cliffhanger ride.

WARNING:-

SPOILER ALERT!!! If you haven't watched it and plan to watch it without anyone being the spoiler, please DON'T CONTINUE READING!!!

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You HAD been warned. Don't blame me for being spoiled if you INSIST on continuing to read this post.

Introduction

The anime...

The anime, Sora no Method (in Japanese, 天体のメソッド), or in the English translation, Celestial Method is adapted...wait, this is no adaption! It is an original 13-episode Japanese anime television series!!! So rare to see that in action nowadays! It is usually adapted from existing written works of others. Anyway, it is created and written by Naoki Hisaya and produced by a young animation (at the time of production) Studio 3Hz. This studio is founded by ex-Kinema Citrus animators, including the founder Yuichiro Matsuka back in March 2013.

The manga cover

The anime is aired in Japan between October 5 and December 28, 2014. There is even a short original video animation (OVA) episode being released!! Anyway, there is also a manga adaptation that is illustrated by Yuka Namisaki was serialized in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Daioh magazine.

Plot

Nonoka returning...

The story starts with the return of Komiya Nonoka to the place where she lived as a child, Lake Kiriya City. She returns to the city (where she lived during her childhood), which now has a mysterious saucer atop the city, together with her father after the passing of her mother. BTW, the city is beside the lake, which is based on Lake Tōya in Hokkaido. OK, back to the story.

Saucer atop the lake...beautiful.

She moves into her old house when she was a child in Lake Kiriya City, together with her father. Ok, yes, yes, I'm repeating myself. When she got up in the morning (with the alarm clock ringing in the packing box), she founds Noel, a mysterious girl that she met before she moves out of the city, right there in her room. After an incident involving a misunderstanding with Noel, she starts to realize that Noel's aim, fulfilling her wish (and also the wishes of her childhood friends).

Noel in Nonoka's room...

Here is where Noel's mission can finally start...

I won't describe the whole story here because the whole story is surrounding the troubles of her childhood friends and bring them together once again. The troubles and mess that they went through are worth your time to watch. There are cliffhangers and tension between character because of the different life ideals and misunderstanding. A lot of drama. Anyway, time for my evaluation.

Trying catch...

...but failed.

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 9/10)

The plot of the story has a lot of ups and downs, and also a lot of cliffhangers, similar to Haifuri. The story is quite good. The drama to assemble the gang of childhood friends back together is well-made. I quite like this anime too but there are much better anime out there, like Angel Beats and Anohana. Anyway, the pacing and flow of the story are well-constructed. The story didn't have confusing elements and have explained the source of the conflicts between characters within the story well.

Shione and Noel...

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Beautiful art and animation, I say. There are many beautiful sceneries. Also, the saucer's sparkling animation is well-done too and also well-drawn. The animation is quite consistent throughout, I say. Great art and animation, plus some standout arts and animation. Great, I say.

The sparkling saucer...

Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)

Before I talk about the theme songs, I say that the background music is actually nice and well-placed in every scenario. OK...I like the opening theme song. I did listen to it multiple times before. Good song. As the ending theme song, although I dun really like it, the song is nice to listen to.

Aren't they cute?...LOLIS!!!!

Characters (Rating: 9/10)

The characters are well-made and have good development. The focus of the story is mostly on character development rather than moe-ness. Well, the characters are quite cute like Noel (which is easily is the fan-favourite in terms of cuteness). The character's struggles are quite relatable to all of us. Broken relationship and trust are VERY difficult to rebuild and restructure. Miscommunications and misunderstandings are a staple in human relationships. There are so many things that we can see in real life that is reflected in the story.

The girls finally assembled together.

Enjoyment (Rating: 7/10)

I quite like the anime although it is not really up to the standard of Anohana and Angel Beats. Well, of course, those are the favourite anime of all times for many. Anyway, the anime's multiple cliffhangers kept me engaged to it. It was a good experience watching it.

A brief funny and interesting moment...

Overall Rating: 8.2 (8.5)/10

Noel waiting...for who?

Shione and Nonoka...an awkward atmosphere, I say.

Riding on a bus...much harder to see nowadays...

The trio trying to find ways to rid of the saucer...

A brief conversation between Shouta and Nonoka...

The moment of truth...

Shione and Nonoka reconciled...maybe?

Noel...NO! Don't cry, Noel.
