Introduction

Again, the poster.

Well, here...we are not gonna discuss much on the anime's background. The anime, Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future (in Japanese, プリティーリズム・ディアマイフューチャー), which is a sequel of Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream. For more info, you should go the anime review on its prequel, Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream. I might go and watch this anime's 'sequel' but not anytime soon.

Act One...START!

Plot

The opening Prism Act is coming...

Well, here we go! The story starts where Aurora Dream ended. No, just kidding. It starts exactly three years after the end of Aurora Dream. Well, in this future, EVERY member of MARs had won the title of Prism Queen. So, basically, MARs is a group of Prism Queen, a TOP, TOP class group. Right? Yep. I would agree with that.

A challenge!

Anyway, SUDDENLY someone decided to challenge Aira during MARs concert. Her name is Ageha Mia and she will change the landscape of Prism Show forever. She aspires to become a greater idol than Aira. In the process, she decided to join Pretty Top and later forms her own group, Prizmmy☆, which includes herself, Reina Miyama, Karin Shijimi and Ayami Ooruri. But, of course, group formation doesn't come easily. At first, the group of girls (Reina, Karin and Ayami) and Mia don't even know each other and they don't even get along that well. Mia is not exactly the most considerate person, making Reina and her friends don't exactly want to get along with Mia. Later, they did reconcile and finally making their debut.

Oh...the reconciliation

Anyway, after their debut, another girl, Hye In, who is Mia's childhood friend and the person that she encountered during the time when she had troubles with the rest of her teammates, appears as a temporary transfer student in Pretty Top. Later, Hye In's other friends, Shi Yoon, Jae Eun, Chae Kyoung and So Min come to Pretty Top and then later forms the group named PURETTY. Before the formation, they found out that they don't have great team sync as compared to the members of Prizmmy☆ even though they are much better individually.

PURETTY debut!!!

OK, here is the anime starts to show us the mysterious antagonist (BTW, he is related to Symphonia series). The competition (which is the Stand Up Girls tournament) that Prizmmy☆ joined had a prize for the winner (duh!), which is the Symphonia Boots. One of the new characters, Yunsu (who is a designer for Sho's Prism Stone rival, Dear Crown) found out that the prize was not some imitation but a real thing, which sparks a suspicion of change in Prism Show although he hasn't realised that there is someone behind the scene that has a hand on this. This gives him (and us, the audience) some suspicion on what is going on behind the scene.

Yunsu realised something...

The mysterious person...

Putting that aside (we will get back to it later), we later found that the two childhood friends, Mia and Hye In share only one dream, which is to become the no.1 Prism star in the world. Oh yeah, on the way to revealing the final antagonist of this anime, we saw that the members of Prizmmy☆ and PURETTY are getting along quite with other. They even combine to form three different groups. Yunsu will later not only become Sho's rival in fashion design, but he will also be rival for Aira's affection. This love triangle is complicated by the fact that Sho will not outright affirm his feeling for her and their relationship, Aira's further confusion of her feelings, her own indecisiveness and later caught into the enchantment of the mysterious black Symphonia dress, and further compounded by the fact that her two best friends have complete opposing opinions about her love problem.

Mion and Rizumu's conflicting opinions

Oh no...BTW, this is after Yunsu confesses to Aira.

The two options she had before she was given a third option.

MARs wearing the legendary Symphonia series dress...

Aira is clearly being brainwashed by the very costume she wears...

Well, in that middle of the intensifying love triangle fight, the ULTIMATE antagonist appeared after Aira was enchanted by the dress, with Aira making her perform using the dress that the antagonist gave. The ULTIMATE antagonist is Asechi Kintaro, Kyoko's father and the design for the legendary Symphonia series. He has appeared as Bombie from the very start.

From Bombie to...

...Bombie's real identity, Asechi Kintaro!

Anyway, Asechi took the MARs away after he made them sign the contract with his company. This sparks another 'fight'. This time the fight is held in a form of a competition, Sky High Symphonia, which was precisely the Prism Act that Asechi wanted MARs to perform (and they failed, only performing the act of Road to Symphonia). The fight took away, Serenon with Kaname, Love Mix and also Prizmmy (NO!!!!). Anyway, PURETTY defeated MARs by successfully performing the very act that Asechi wanted MARs to perform (but failed), Sky High Symphonia. This later lead to the revealing of how Kyoko actually got to become the Prism Queen on her debut in the Prism Queen Cup and also the hospitalization of Asechi.

The Road to Symphonia...Asechi's team only reached there

Sky High Symphonia!!!

Kintaro having a heart attack...after his defeat.

This revelation destroyed the reputation of Prism Show so badly that people legitimately hate Prism dancers. However, the determination of Prizmmy and PURETTY salvage something out of the mess and bring back some of the lustres of the Prism Show. Thus, their determination save Prism Show from complete destruction and complete obsoleteness. Anyway, from this incident, Kyoko decided to plead the Prism dancers under her to perform the ULTIMATE PRISM ACT that Asechi REALLY wanted to produce, Grateful Symphonia. So, they compete in a series of competition to determine the centre of the group that will be performing the Grateful Symphonia.

Successfully recovering that lustre...

Announcement to perform the Grateful Symphonia...

Soon, Asechi came back again but this time, to make the Grateful Symphonia ending to fit his original (and also final revision) of his vision of the act's ending act. Anyway, after much struggle to get Mia to perform as she didn't want the members of PURETTY (especially Hye In) to return to Korea, they started the performance and on the way to the final act, Asechi suddenly interrupts with a gust of wind to halt the girls way to the final destination and also interrupting with his appearance to stop Hye In and Mia to enter the last door of the final act.

Kintaro stopping them...

Kintaro appears...

During the act, Mia and Hye In work together to destroy Asechi's vision and opens up the true ending of Grateful Symphonia, which happens to be his very original intent of the ending. After finishing the final act of Grateful Symphonia, we see almost every character's future. Well, this pretty much leaves a lot of speculation of what happens in the middle. At the end of the anime, most of our previous franchise (Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream) characters (eg. Aira, Rhythm etc.) are going their own ways. AND obviously, PURETTY and Prizmmy are also separating as the members of PURETTY are returning to Korea. THE END.

The final version of Kintaro's vision...a place where time stops

The original intent of the Grateful Symphonia

If you expect to hear every part of the story from me, sorry to say that you won't because it's too long to tell the whole story. Any minor details you wanna know have to come from watching yourself. Anyway, it's really a GOOD anime to watch. Some might say the previous franchise is better but I suspect that it's mostly due to the nostalgia for the previous cast (just like Aikatsu). Anyway, this marks the final straw for Aira's continuity. The next season will NO LONGER be based on Aira's world but a parallel world, which is Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live.

Into Rainbow Live!

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 10/10)

Although the story no longer focused on the previous cast, the interaction between the new casts (and sometimes between old and new casts) is pretty interesting and funny. I really enjoyed. I love the many lessons that I can learn from there. I will tell you next time.

Here is Reina! She is really in love. LOL...

Art and Animation (Rating: 7/10)

The arts and animation are pretty much quite standard for an anime with mixed types of animations. It is animated pretty well. Of course, you don't fly up in the air all of a sudden when you perform on stage. Duh!

A chasing game?

Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)

A lot of good music in this anime since there is like FOUR different OP songs and FOUR different ED songs. There is also a lot of great insert songs in the anime. The BGM was quite good also.

The end of the Grateful Symphonia...

Characters (Rating: 9/10)

The characters? Wow...they actually match up with the previous season quite well. However, the nostalgia factor kicks in and no full marks. The story really helps me (as far as I know) to have some sympathy with the antagonist sad background story and cry when he cries. I know how it feels to be lonely and alone by yourself...it's really terrible. Anyway, there is PLENTY of character development. Mia, changed from no much care for her teammates to truly treasure them. Hye In, slowly growing in her confidence. AND so much more! You need to watch it for you to know and understand it.

Kintaro crying...

Enjoyment (Rating: 9/10)

I enjoyed the anime REALLY much. I enjoy the tear-jerking moments (although much lesser than Aurora Dream), funny and serious moments. Every one of them is a precious, precious moment. I really enjoyed it. BUT because that Aurora Dream is much better in terms of the story, the surprise factor and as someone who had watched Aurora Dream, a nostalgia factor, there will no full marks. Sad. Do I sound like Donald Trump?

Dear your Future!!! The End.

Overall Rating: 8.6 (8.5)/10
