Finally, talking about the grandfather to modern isekai anime...

Hi people! How is life? After the publishing of the (still less popular) blog post of the movie of Love Live Sunshine and the blog post of Hanayamata insert song Kodoku Signal, I would like to publish another post around the time of the Chinese New Year celebration.

Ah...Roxy...

What is this blog post gonna be about, you asked? It's about Mushoku Tensei, the anime that is called the grandfather of modern isekai anime. Although Sword Art Online anime came earlier than Mushoku Tensei anime, I had enjoyed my time watching it. So, now, time for me to talk about it. Let's go!!!!

WARNING:-

SPOILER ALERT! This post is very likely to contain spoilers for this anime. So...if you are planning to watch the anime without any spoilers, you can either continue to read this post or move on and watch the anime.

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You HAD been warned. Don't blame me for being spoiled if you INSIST on continuing to read this post.

Introduction

The anime...

The series, Musoku Tensei or Jobless Reincarnation (in Japanese, 無職転生 〜異世界行ったら本気だす〜) started as a Japanese web novel series on the now-famous Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2012. This series is so popular that just after a year, it got a print release under Media Factory's MF Books imprint with illustrations done by a Pixiv user, Shirotaka. Originally published on the internet web novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2012, a year later it was announced the series would receive a print release under Media Factory's MF Books imprint with illustrations done by a Pixiv user called Shirotaka.

The light novel cover

There is even a manga adaptation by Yuka Fujikawa that began serialization in the June 2014 issue of Monthly Comic Flapper. It even got its localization in North America for the manga and the original light novels. The anime adaptation? Well, it was done by Studio Bind, which is basically a collab firm (or in technical terms, joint venture) between White Fox and Egg Firm. I heard that some said that this new company is funded by Chinese companies. There is NO evidence supporting that theory, as I know so far. Anyway, the anime was aired from January to December 2021 and is divided into two parts. Part one was aired from January 11, 2021, to March 22, 2021, while the second part was aired from October 4, 2021, to December 20, 2021.

The manga cover...

The anime adaptation received an overwhelmingly positive response and is considered one of the best anime of 2021 in spite of the shit storm by Chinese snowflakes and shitstormers, forcing the Chinese streaming network Bilibili to suspend the shows. What did they do, you asked? The users criticised this series containing what they perceived as misogynistic comments and content. One of them even called this show is for "bottom-feeders in the social hierarchy", which basically means this show is meant for lowly scums of the society. sigh...I think the Western snowflake would also criticise this show using the pointer that these people made. I'm not here to deal with the political correctness police, woke police and snowflakes but to talk about what I enjoy about this show. Let's move on.

Bilibili. Ah...let's move on. I dun wanna talk about that incident.

Plot

Going into the surgery room...

The story starts with an unnamed 34-year-old Japanese NEET being evicted from his home following his parents' death and skipping the funeral. Well, he got hit by a truck when trying to save a group of teenagers. Ah, yes, I guess it's another classic scene typical of an isekai or "being reborn into something else or someone else" anime cliche once again.

Reincarnated as a baby...

Anyway, with that truck-kun assisting our NEET to get his ass reincarnated into a world of sword and magic in a baby's body. As a baby (a pretty perverted one), he slowly explores his new world and then realizes it's a world of sword and magic. With that realisation, he resolves to become successful in his new life, discarding his past identity and embracing his new life as Rudeus Greyrat. He also wants to use his current identity to overcome the failures of his previous life in the old world.

Time for magic powers!

Roxy came.

Due to being an adult in a child's body and his early training of magic after he found a book teaching magic, Rudeus becomes highly skilled at magic. Duh! As his parents find out that he is well-versed in magic as a child, they decided to get him a teacher, which we will later find is a loli cute girl named Roxy Migurdia. His affinity for magic impressed Roxy to a point that she decided to teach him whatever she can before going on a journey again.

Bringing Rudy out of the house...

Roxy's leaving...Nooooo!

Cute Sylphy...

Before Roxy left him, she brought him out of town to conduct a magic test for his graduation and unknowingly bring him to finally break the hoodoo of fearing to leave home because of the trauma back in his previous world. After Roxy's departure and Rudy got caught stealing Roxy's panties, he befriends an elf demihuman named Sylphiette who has green hair and was bullied by kids when he first saw her. It was a pretty cute moment.

Family discussion...

Eris...ah...

After her departure, Rudy thinks of going to a magic school to learn magic but Sylphy (short for the name Sylphiette) dun want him to leave. So, he decided to try to work and get some money after his father mentioned that he couldn't pay two person's lesson fees. He was then forcibly brought to his father's other family member to be a magic teacher to noble heiress Eris Boreas Greyrat as a job to pay for their fees. It was tough at first because of Eris' reluctant and violent tendencies. Well, it took a little convincing, albeit an unconventional one. That's all I could describe in short. Anyway, Eris decided to keep Rudy around as her teacher.

That white light incident...

That unknown god...

Rujired...

There are a few incidents before a sudden incident that teleported Rudy and his friends and his family that will make social justice warriors (SJWs) and hyperventilating, hypertensive...humans cringe. I dun even wanna start that. Anyway, that white light incident (that's what I will call it) teleported Rudy and Eris together in the same place and met a green-haired demon race called Ruijerd. He is of the demon race known as Supards.

That moment that broke Eris' heart

That moment with Rudy...

That moment after Eris left...

With that and the guidance of an unknown god, he began to journey back to his home town with Eris and the newfound friend in Rujired. Well, after a treacherous and long journey, they finally reached back to their hometown. Eris found out that she lost her all family members except for Ghislaine, her former bodyguard and her former butler. Wow...that's painful. She then decided to have sex with Rudy as she want him to be her family. After that, she left him. OK, chill, people. Let me explain.

Eris' new journey...

...with Ghislaine

The reason she left is that she wanna find a place where she could become stronger and stand by his side to fight bad guys, especially Orsted who almost killed Rudy. Why does Orsted want to kill Rudy? Well, he hears the name of the unknown god who visited Rudy in his dream and thinks that Rudy is that god's disciple. Why does he want to kill that god's disciple? Well, that will be a spoiler if I explain that. I know the answer though. Not gonna further elaborate. As for why Rudy still can survive after that, Orseted decided to heal him after the girl who follows him said something to Orsted. You still have a lot of questions, isn't it? Again, the answers are MUCH further ahead of the current story timeline. Not gonna disclose.

Rudy's near-death experience...

...because of Orsted.

Anyway, that near-death experience of Rudy compounded by the fact all her family members were dead and her love for Rudy, she decided to get better in her swordsmanship to fight alongside him against Orsted. That message that she left for Rudy is too short and doesn't explain the context of her departure, leaving him broken and almost going back to what he does in his previous life. Dang it, Eris! You could've destroyed his life forever, you know? Well, I understand that she is not exactly well-versed in expressing herself but still...never mind. Anyway, his dream of his birth mother in this life brought him back to life and starts his journey as an adventure once again. This time is to find his birth mother. Yeah, the story ends here. For now. Hopefully, there's the next season to look forward to. We'll see how will that play out. Let's move on.

Ah, Zenith...

Painful but time to move on...

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 10/10)

The story is a great story despite being a slow-paced story as compared to the modern fast-flowing, exciting, exhilarating plotline. In my opinion, this story's slow pace is a great alternative to the modern fast anime plotline and suits the theme of the story, growth and maturity of a flawed human being. The pacing enables us to examine the characters' growth, maturity and change in attitude. I can get why it took so long to have an anime adaption of its own because of the modern fast society. Anyway, there are pointers that SJWs would like to hate on but I'm not hyperventilating like them and didn't just return to reality from Neverland so I understand that people have flaws, even main characters in stories. It's ok to be that. Anyway, I'm dragging on and going out of topic a bit too much. Let's move on.

Aww...you making me cry there.

Art and Animation (Rating: 10/10)

The look of the character and the background, the look of the powers and the consistency of the animation...there is nothing I could nitpick. They are just beautiful. One of the biggest reasons why I even decided to watch this anime.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Sound and Music (Rating: 10/10)

Just beautiful. Both the opening and closing songs. The opening theme song is presented while the story is running, which is interesting. Just saying. As for the ending song, it's just beautiful. Well, I really just like the 1st opening and 1st closing theme songs. The rest are decent to me but they are all great and are a great fit for the change of scenery and arc of the anime as our MC moves on in the story. Oh, BTW, the background music and sound effects are great too. That's all I can say.

The ending sequence...this is the first time to take this, isn't it?

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Wait, why a 10 out of 10, you asked? Bruh, I'm not here to find the most perfect character in the world. Anyway, the characters development of this story is the main point and oh, boy, they nailed it so well and so accurately. There's nothing more I could say than to repeat the pointer that I used back in the "Story" section. The character interaction? Well, it isn't as funny as in those cute girls doing cute things anime but they are still good. Sometimes, they are a bit heavy but this is the nature of an anime focused on character growth and development. The likeability of the characters? It depends on you. As for me, I like ROXY!!!! I wanna see more Roxy!!! The relatability of the characters? Well, aren't we always growing, unlike those people who return from Neverland to reality? Yeah, you know what I mean.

Interesting expression from Roxy. xD

Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)

I enjoyed it a lot. Really. Although I did have a hard time watching the anime second part because of the recent lack of passion to watch anime in general, I managed to get my ass to it and really enjoy every part of it. I even shed tears for the reunion after along the journey to the end of the anime.

My favourite character, Roxy!!!

Overall Rating: 10 (10)/10

Rudy's first adventure team...because of the need to journey home.

Oh, man. This is not gonna end well.

Roxy's new adventure team...

New training with animal ear girls!

Welp...this reunion didn't turn out right...

This is better.

Aisha!!!

Conclusion

Oh, you have reached the end? The Plot part went a bit long but I think it's necessary to do so for clarity. Of course, I did leave out a lot of details. There are too many things to talk about. It's best that you watched it yourself to get the context and the feel for the story. Oh, by the way, the rating for the anime is for the two parts. They are combined into one. Just a late disclaimer. Oh, a perfect 10 out of 10? Well, when did it happen the last time?

Ya, when was it? Anyway...

Anyway, I wanna say a few things before I end this. I had a hard time watching the second part of this anime because of my lack of drive to watch anime in general nowadays and the fact that I did spoil the story for myself quite a lot. Me getting spoilers is usually not enough to sway me from watching that certain anime but it does reduce the motivation to watch anime a bit and it doesn't help me to drive up my passion to watch anime. Anyway, I had stopped watching the spoilers for the series quite a while ago. I hope to continue to like and watch this series. Well, that's all I could say. I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you!

A little fanservice here...Roxy...CUTE!!!!!
