Hello once again! It is a good season of me being stuck at home, writing new blog posts but I would say this: Rest in peace to those who die because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). May God bless us and save us from this disaster.

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You HAD been warned. Don't blame me for being spoiled if you INSIST on continuing to read this post.
Introduction
|
Anime... |
The series, Kyokou Suiri (aka In/Spectre) (In Japanese, 虚構推理) is originally Japanese light novel published by Kodansha and written by Kyo Shirodaira with illustrations by Hiro Kyohara and since volume 2, by Chasiba Katase. Wow, why change the illustrator? Anyway, this series is also known as Invented Inference, which is actually a lesser-known name and I dun even know that this name even exists in this universe.
|
From the light novel... |
You're asking about the other adaptions (other than the anime)? OK, I'm coming to it. The series has a manga adaptation with art by Chasiba Katase and has been serialized since April 2015. There are two different serializations and even a special manga volume on its own. I'm not gonna further elaborate it. And yes, this is the ONLY adaptation if you exempt the anime series, which is animated by Brain's Base and premiered on January 11, 2020. Also, there is a special mini anime series that is ongoing on
their official Twitter account but I'm not gonna further elaborate on that nor will I do a review on it as it is a series that mostly explains about monsters that appears in the series (quite a number of them are from Japanese myths) and give some spotlight to the monsters that appear in the story.

Manga...volume 9! |
Plot
|
Kotoko...quite a cute loli girl |
Hmm...this one quite a challenging one to start but I will try. The story starts with a
thirsty and lewd girl called Iwanaga Kotoko. She approached Sakuragawa Kuro, a guy who she is fallen in love with and is broken by his past relationship with a girl named Yumihara Saki. Well, she confessed to Kuro and obviously, he didn't accept her confession immediately. I mean, who would, given the situation?
|
Cute loli being surrounded by monsters... |
Not long after their conversation, Kotoko went to solve another monster-related case as the "Goddess of Wisdom" (and also trying to bring Kuro along). What is that, you ask? This "Goddess of Wisdom" is an intermediary person that resolve disputes among the monsters. As a price of being the monsters' "Goddess of Wisdom", she lost one of her eyes and one of her legs. Wow...O.O
|
Wait...what?! |
Anyway, Kotoko successfully brings Kuro to be involved with her resolving dispute business in the supernatural world by starting off with the madness of a certain monster. Well, she tried to talk sense into it but failed so she resorted to brute force. And then, the secret of Kuro is shown to us when one of his hands grown back after being eaten by the monster and the monster melts away and dies after eating one of Kuro's arms. WTF?!
|
O.O...what?! |
So yeah, why Kuro have such powers? Well, Kuro told us that he ate two monsters flesh at 11-year-old. Wow...just wow. What are the two monsters? One of them was the mermaid monster (he told us that) and Kudan, a monster that has a human head and cow's body (which Kuro didn't tell us). Those two "combined" to give him the powers of super-healing and near-absolute precognition. OK...calm down, people. Calm down. It's OK. Anyway, from that day onwards, Kuro agrees to help Kotoko on her various adventures as the peace-keeping Goddess of Wisdom.
|
Oh...the Steel Lady Nanase |
There are two primary arcs after the incident with Ayakashi, the body dumping arc (which involved a big, supernatural snake who was a former water god) and the Steel Lady Nanase arc. The snake arc is quite small as compared to the Steel Lady Nanase arc. That Steel Lady arc took more than half of the show. Anyway, it was a mind-blowing experience of how Kotoko uses the lack of information in certain areas of an incident to create a falsehood so convincing. HOLY SHIT...wow. At this point, I wanna move on and one more thing, I will ask a question at the very end of this post.
|
That face of Kotoko...wow |
Anime Rating
Story (Rating: 9/10)
The story is at first didn't much tension until the appearance of the Steel Lady Nanase. That incident raises the tension level from 0 all the way to 10. The story is mostly on the Steel Lady Nanase arc, which is really interesting to watch although someone I know feels that the anime has devoted too much time into the Steel Lady Nanase arc. For me, I feel that the anime has devoted the right amount of time to the arc as cleaning up the mess that rumours of Nanase are a really difficult task, just like rumours in real life...you assholes! Anyway, the story flow and paces very well but it is a bit difficult to understand for some.

The other "battleground" - The internet. |
Art and Animation (Rating: 7/10)
The monsters and the characters are well-drawn, well-animated and pretty consistent. That's what I'm talking about, people! The character is quite cute, especially Kotoko.
|
Wow...monster...melting away... |
Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)
Interesting opening and closing songs...Well, I like the opening song better than the closing song. It is good but it's not to my taste. As for the soundtracks and BGMs, I would say that they are good and well-fitted into the anime.
|
That effect... |
Characters (Rating: 8/10)
Good characters. I dun really like Kotoko personally but it seems that quite a lot of people like her. She is cute, I admit but not the kind of character that I like. Anyway, character development? I dun really see much as the story focuses on resolving the problems that arise and also dig into the evils of the people on the internet (like us). The story reveals the scary potential of human beings to create lies and get many to believe in it in order for their own purposes or maybe even worse, for fun. Wow...it strikes into many of us, isn't it? Many of us use the internet as a proxy to do things that we would otherwise not do in real life. Scary stuff...so, yeah, I found that I have actually answered the question of the relatability of the characters to the audience.

The internet "meeting". This is us, isn't it? |
Enjoyment (Rating: 9/10)
I enjoy this anime because of the twists and turns of the Steel Lady Nanase arc. Good stuff there. The way that Kuro and Kotoko destroy the Steel Lady is really incredible. Will watch again whenever possible.

LMAO! That part...xD |

Conclusion
Oh, it's the end of the post already? So, the question is: Which one do you choose, elaborate lies or simple truths? That...is a food for thought for all of us. Anyway, some news before you go. The movement control order (MCO) in my country is being extended yet again. Wow...Now, I'm gonna literally be stuck at home for more than a month. This is something I could only say on this period of time because even when I was jobless, I still can go out as I like. Wow...this pandemic really forces us to change how we do things at this point. Well, that's all I could say. I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you! And also, may God help us to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.
