AHEM! Anyway, I wanted to publish a post about the anime Non Non Biyori for a long time. Introduction

Season 1. Cute.

Season 2! Watch, laugh, wait and repeat.

Season 3! NON STOP!!! DUN STOP!!!

The series, Non Non Biyori (のんのんびより) started as a Japanese manga series that is written and illustrated by Atto. It started serialised in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine from September 2009 to February 2021. The story is based on the same setting as Atto's former work, Toko-toko & Yume no Yume.

The manga...the art is kinda...

A 12-episode anime television series adaptation by Silver Link aired in Japan between October and December 2013 and has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks. A second anime season aired between July and September 2015. An anime film premiered in August 2018, and a third anime season aired between January and March 2021. I will talk a bit about the movie here. Don't worry. NEXT!

MOVIE!

Plot

Hotaru in a new place...

The story has a simple start and simple theme, life in a small town village. There is a girl who follows her family to the simple small-town village of Asahigaoka from the big city of Tokyo. Her name is Ichijo Hotaru, a fifth-grader. Well, of course, it's a small town village in the modern world so there won't have the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to and there are very few people in the town village.

Nyan passu~!!!

You ask whether it's a cute girl doing cute things and slice-of-life anime? The answer is a firm YES. Why that face? Dun worry. The characters are pretty interesting to watch. The school that Hotaru goes to, which is conveniently named Asahigaoka Branch School, is a very interesting one because her class, no, her entire school consists of only five students. What's more each of them is in different grades of elementary or middle school. They are first-grader Miyauchi Renge who brings an unadulterated wit, curiosity, and her characteristic catchphrase, "Nyanpasu! and the Koshigaya siblings consisting of the quiet ninth grader and elder brother Suguru (I blame the creators for muting him. Where is his voice? Where is it?), diminutive eighth grader Komari, and the mischievous seventh grader Natsumi.

The girls hanging out...

So yeah, as our dear MC, Hotaru adjusts to countryside life with her new friends. Of course, like a typical slice of life and "cute girls doing cute things" anime, there will laughter and ridiculous shit that will come our way. As one reviewer from MyAnimeList would put it:

Non Non Biyori is probably the most underrated anime there is; so few know about it and those who tasted it will tell you wonders. Each episode is a masterclass of imagination with these lovable characters; the best example would be putting a pair of handcuffs on one of the girl's hands and even the impossible can happen.

Yep, I agree with that reviewer very much. It's quite a lot of fun to watch it. It's a good way to get yourself out of this busy and at many times, dull life. The not-so-normal daily lives of this group of friends are really fun to watch. The fun that they have is very interesting and is a good way to get out of this hasty life for a moment. Time for me to move...what?! The movie? OK, let's briefly discuss it before moving on.

Their time in Okinawa...

The movie is about the girls, together with the adults going on a trip to Okinawa using the ticket that  Suguru won. Yeah, that's it. That's all I can say. The rest is for you to savour the fun of watching them having fun in Okinawa and chill out. Oh OK, time to move on. NEXT!

That epic reaction...

Anime Rating

Season 1

Story (Rating: 8/10)

The story is a very 4-panel manga-ish style, which is a mini-story after another. So, there is nothing much about the plot. As for the flow and the pacing of the story, they are pretty decent. The story is also easy to understand even though there's no continuity in the conventional scene.

Looking out for?

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Pretty decent. Frankly, nothing much to complain about as long it is not as broken as a certain anime.

Good weather!

Sound and Music (Rating: 6/10)

Nothing much I can say. The theme songs are overall good but they are mostly not my cup of tea. As for the background music and sound effect, they are a good fit for this anime.

Ah...cute girls...

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

The interactions between characters are funny and sometimes, cute. As for character development, there's nothing much to talk about as the anime's selling point is about the hilarious interaction between the different characters. Well, what sells, it sells. xD

Errr...what is going on here?

Enjoyment (Rating: 8/10)

Funny and cute...what more can I say? A good anime to chill out after a long day facing this corrupted world. Ah, whatever. It's just a good anime to chill with.

I want warm soup too!!!

Overall Rating: 8 (8)/10

Season 2

Story (Rating: 8/10)

Pretty much the same as the previous season. Nothing much for me to say. NEXT!

Sounds fun! And also, nostalgic.

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Pretty decent. Frankly, nothing much to complain about as long it is not as broken as a certain anime. Same old same.

The night sky...

Sound and Music (Rating: 6/10)

Nothing much I can say. I would probably say pretty much the same for the theme songs, background music and sound effects. That's all.

This looks so wholesome...

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Pretty much the same. There's not much difference compared to the previous season. Cute and funny interactions between characters are the anime's selling point. Well, again, what sells, it sells. xD

Cheese!!!

Enjoyment (Rating: 8/10)

Nothing much I can say. Good stuff.

What the...

Season 3

Story (Rating: 8/10)

Pretty much the same as the previous season. Nothing much for me to say. Deja vu, isn't it? But, seriously, the format is the same. Well, of course, the story is different but the format and the story pattern are at large the same.

That was awkward...

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

As usual, good. Nothing much to complain about.

In the snow...

Sound and Music (Rating: 6/10)

Nothing much I can say. I would probably say pretty much the same for the theme songs, background music and sound effects. That's all. Oh, deja vu again? Well, I dun think that the selling point of this anime is the music. So, yeah...moving on...

Cute!

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Bruh, this is already the third season. What more can I say? The cute and hilarious interactions between characters are the anime's selling point. I dun think that they would change that at this point. This is the selling point of the 4-panel manga too.

LOL!!! Wait, what?! LMAO!!!

Enjoyment (Rating: 8/10)

Cute and funny, not cunny, you deviants. Period. Nothing more to say.

That epic reaction...

Overall Rating: 8 (8)/10

Movie

Story (Rating: 10/10)

This one is a little different compared to the usual Non Non Biyori-esque plot. It's about the trip of them going to Okinawa with the adults in the story. It starts with a bit of background on how Suguru won the ticket to Okinawa. The plot is really fun and nice. Good flow, good pacing, good plot...element of a great story.

Having a nice chat...

Art and Animation (Rating: 8/10)

Good stuff. Nothing to complain about. Looks good.

The beautiful night sky...

Sound and Music (Rating: 7/10)

Cute and sweet. The usual Non Non Biyori theme song.

Just a nice screenshot there.

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

The character interaction between the main characters pretty much stays the same. The fresh, new side characters are pretty much complimentary to the character development. Good stuff.

Cute girls!

Enjoyment (Rating: 8/10)

Even though it's a trip to Okinawa, it's still as hilarious and cute as ever. Period. Nothing more I can say.

LOL!

Overall Rating: 8.6 (8.75)/10

Conclusion

Well, that's the end. Sorry for the long hiatus. There was too much distraction and so many things in life to settle. I will try to catch up on the lost time. This blog post is a bit rushed as the basic frameworks are all in place except for the screenshots but I tried my best to make it as good as possible. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing here. Goodbye, and God bless you!
