Nep! Time for Nep Nep!

Hi, people! How are you? You are doing fine? GOOD! If not, God bless you. Anyway, I have written the blog post about Gochuumon Sing For You after a few weeks not publishing anything on my blog.

Now, time for a little relaxation.

OK, putting that aside. It's time for me to address the Hyperdimension Neptunia anime series. I dun think it's getting any more new addition to the anime series. Well, I will address this series further on this post. Let's GO!!!!!

WARNING:-

SPOILER ALERT!!! If you haven't watched it and plan to watch it without anyone being the spoiler, please DON'T CONTINUE READING!!!

P.S. If you want to be spoiled, well, go ahead and read it. You HAD been warned. Don't blame me for being spoiled if you INSIST on continuing to read this post.

Introduction

The anime!

The series, Hyperdimension Neptunia (in Japanese, 超次元ゲイム ネプテューヌ) or Choujigen Game Neptune is a really big game series. Initially created and developed by Idea Factory, the series has the first series debuted on August 19, 2010. It was then remade into  Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth 1. The sequel,  Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2 also had the same fate as its prequel.

Nep!!!

There are two more sequels, which are Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and Megadimension Neptunia VII. They also have their remakes done. Anyway, there are multiple spin-offs of this series, which I won't go into the details. You can go through it yourselves. And yes, this series is very famous otherwise there won't be so many spin-offs of this series. Who on Earth will make spin-offs for a series that is a failure? Oh yeah, the series has also branched off into a manga, light novel and anime media franchise series. YES, it is a BIG HIT.

The 3rd "season" of the game series...

Anyway...it is not the case for the anime. The anime has some criticism and do not have good sales if I remember correctly. Well, probably it's for people to start playing the Nep game. Yes, I called this game series, The Nep Game. Deal with it. Ahem! Anyway, the anime TV series, Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation, was aired in Japan between July and September 2013. Interestingly and unexpectedly (for me, at least), an OVA premiered on July 8, 2019. It is titled Hyperdimension Neptunia The Animation: Nepu no Natsuyasumi. I didn't expect that. Anyway, I will address all of them. Let's GO!

A random pic I found from the internet about the OVA

Plot

That contract...

The story of this anime series...oh yeah, I won't be addressing the story in the game here. Play it yourselves to know the story. Anyway, the anime plot is very different as compared to the game. The plot started with the CPUs of Gamindustri signing a friendship treaty, banning the use of military force to take Shares. Neptune is pressured to start to work properly as the Goddess of her country, Planeptune. So...the day of funny and mundane daily life, plus some fights against enemies start.

That running gag...

The story is relatively relaxed with the use of running gags from the game. There is nothing much in terms of plot. The anime series is basically a little mesh of story from the 1st series till the 3rd series. Nothing much...wait, I should reserve this in the next segment. Oh, BTW, the extra episode and the OVA are pretty good. OK, NEXT!

One hilarious scene from the OVA...Nep, you are just being dramatic.

Anime Rating

Story (Rating: 5/10)

The plot of the story is actually average but without much of a direction. It is designed to be like Cute Girls Doing Cute Things type but the whole story feels like a mash-up of the 3 series of the game story rather than a coherent story. Quite poor. So, yeah, no need to say the flow and pacing of the story since the plot is nowhere to have any sort of coherency. The easiness to understand the story? Well, I'm not too sure about that though. Maybe? As for the OVA, there is nothing much to say as it is a short story of breaking into the next dimension (and another brief mash-up of the Nep season 4 of the game).

Coming to visit Lastation!

Art and Animation (Rating: 9/10)

The characters are well-drawn and consistent. The fight animations are pretty good and pretty consistent. Same goes for the OVA.

Yellow Heart!

Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)

The OP and ED are pretty good. They were my jam for quite some time. Anyway, the BGM is pretty good and well-placed in different situations.

That scene...it's from the opening sequence.

Characters (Rating: 10/10)

Although there is a lack of individual character development, the characters are pretty likeable. Well, I would like that there are some challenges in the anime without changing the core of the characters as portrayed in the games.

Blanc...oh, Blanc...they're in Lowee BTW

Enjoyment (Rating: 8/10)

I have enjoyed the anime, to be honest, even though it is just "transferred" from the game to the anime. So, yeah...but it's unlikely that I would rewatch it again.

What an interesting scene...

Overall Rating: 8 (8)/10
