Introduction
|
The anime... |
The series, Accel World (in Japanese, アクセル・ワールド) started with a light novel of the same name. It is written by Reki Kawahara (who is also the author for the Sword Art Online series. Will talk about it next time) and illustrated by HiMA. With that, there are two manga adaptations began serialization in Dengeki Bunko Magazine from May 2010, with another series beginning serialization in Dengeki Daioh in January 2013.
|
The light novel... |
As for the anime, it is adapted by Sunrise and was aired in Japan between April and September 2012. After this, two video games titles that contain two original video animation episodes were being made. Also, there is an anime film titled Accel World: Infinite Burst that features an original story by Kawahara. It premiered in Japan on July 23, 2016. Any second season? Sadly, not yet.

The PS3 game... |
|
...and also the PSP game. |
Plot
|
Yep...that short and fat boy. |
The story starts with a short and fat boy name Arita Haruyuki (nicknamed Haru) who is frequently bullied by the delinquents at the Umesato Junior High School. He always uses his Neuro Linker to escape the torment of real life by logging onto the school's Local Network cyberspace. Oh, what he does there? He always plays virtual squash alone...sad boy.
|
Wow...that scoreline. |
Anyway, his innate video game skills bring him to the attention of the school's popular, highly intellectual and attractive girl who is known to be "Kuroyukihime" (not her real name) and is the Student Council Vice-President. Yes, Kuroyukihime is not her real name. There are speculations of her real name but I won't talk about it here. Because of knowing her, she helped Haruyuki to "beat" the delinquents by sacrificing herself. Wow...why?
|
A special meeting, I see... |
Before getting the delinquents out of the way, Kuroyukihime introduces Haruyuki to Brain Burst, a secret program that can accelerate the human cognitive process to the point at which time appears to stop. This program is an Augmented Reality Massively Multiplayer Online (ARMMO) Fighting Game where people fight each other in fierce duels to obtain Burst Points, which can be spent for acceleration abilities in the real world. Wait a minute...why does it feel so weirdly familiar?
|
Time for duel!!! |
Anyway, Kuroyukihime invitation to this world is to help her to obtain Level 10 within Brain Burst by defeating the "Six Kings of Pure Colour" and ultimately meet the creator of Brain Burst to learn its true purpose. With that, Haruyuki joins in the game to help her to obtain her goal and survive in the game itself. Along the way, he will obtain allies that will help them to obtain that goal. Sounds very familiar. Anyway, let's move on.

Interesting... |
Anime Rating
Story (Rating: 8/10)
The plot of the story is focused on Haruyuki getting to know the game Accel World and get to know players from Accel World. Good story. The different conflicts and clashes give the series the spark that gives the characters to grow as a gamer and as a person. The story flows and paces really well. It is also pretty easy to understand.
|
The Accel World avatars... |
Art and Animation (Rating: 9/10)
The characters look good and some of them are pretty cute. The animation of the in-game fight is good and consistent.
|
Fighting scene... |
Sound and Music (Rating: 8/10)
The OP songs are the ones that I like the most. The ED songs are also good too. Oh, the background music? Great and also fits the situation well.
|
Ending sequence... |
Characters (Rating: 10/10)
Character development? It is mostly focused on the MC, Haruyuki, like most series (duh!). There are sufficient development and focus on the side characters. The characters face different challenges and try to overcome them. What a classic pattern that people like and use in storytelling...Good stuff. The relatability? There are probably some, especially the ones including being bullied.

Cute loli!!!!! |
Enjoyment (Rating: 10/10)
I did enjoy at the time when I was watching (and was airing). Good fights and tensions surrounding each and every conflict and challenge. Good stuff. Will rewatch it when I feel like it.

Conclusion
I'm trying to publish this post but I went down with sore throat and need some rest. So, progress is greatly hindered. Sorry! Also, at this point in time, the movement restriction order in my country is ongoing so I can't go out too often, which means I got more to work on this blog. Anyway, it's time to end this post right here. Oh, the Accel World movie, you asked? I will talk about next time after I've watched it. Anyway, I hope that you enjoy reading and browsing this blog. Goodbye, and God bless you!
